Once your orthodontic hardware has been placed, you’ll need to return for follow-up adjustment appointments approx 4-6 weeks apart. These appointments will continue as you progress through orthodontic treatment. To accommodate school and other lifestyle activities, adjustment appointments can be scheduled after school or in the evening. We encourage our patients to express any concerns at these adjustment appointments, so that the doctors and staff can address them while they are in the chair.
When Dr. Antonellis determines you are ready for orthodontic hardware removal, two appointments will be scheduled one month apart. The first appointment is for a digital scan to fabricate a set of retainers. The second appointment will be for removal of your orthodontic hardware or appliance. This debanding appointment, similar to your first treatment appointment, is scheduled in the mornings. Retainers will be placed, either bonded or removal, before you leave the office.
Once your orthodontic hardware has been removed, you are no longer considered in active treatment. The final appointments during retention will be for retainer checks. It’s important that you always bring your retainers with you so that the doctors can adjust or tighten the appliance. Recommended retainer wear and appointments are determined on a case by case basis.
